Good afternoon, good evening, and good night!

Any Truman Show fans out there? It's a truly  fantastic movie, you should definitely add it to your Friday date night list. Well the above is a quote from the main character, played by the insane(ly) talented Jim Carrey, as he greets his neighbors. In the story he finds out that much like Mister Rogers neighborhood, his own neighbors are also just puppets with a script to read. Quite a shock to his whole way of living, to find out that he had been lied to all along.

You see, he always felt like something was just...off...some things just didn't make sense and there were too many coincidences to even count, and so he broke out of the false narrative that he had been stuck in for so long.

Here's the part where I segue to my own life lesson so prepare yourself....

When I realized the truth of God's roles for men and women, it rocked my world. I suddenly realized just how exhausted I was, for myself but also on behalf of all womankind, from trying to fit into a mold that we never belonged in.

Woman was created uniquely, just as Man was created uniquely. We were made with different abilities, strengths, weaknesses, and passions! A Woman wastes her God-given talents when she tries to be the same as a Man!

Now hear me out for a moment...I can already hear the crackle of that defensive fire rising up in you over there... But look, I didn't grow up thinking this way! When I was a child I believed Shania Twain had the right idea of respect with "Any Man Of Mine" and I thought that surely the stressed-out sitcom wives like Debra from Everybody Loves Raymond needed to control everything around them because if they didn't, then NO ONE ELSE WOULD!! Ooh that rings a bell for you, doesn't it? Why wouldn't it? Surely all married woman feel like that at times, and some women must feel like a Debra every day....Good God Almighty how tiring it is to try to control other human beings!!! And then (insert husband here) has the nerve to fight back against our authority! What dishonor! What disrespect! What--- what? We are the ones disrespecting and dishonoring? Oh...That's right..

God gave us, yes us women, to be a helper to the Man that He created. He did not say "the equal half", or "the director of", or even "the authority over". No, it is written plainly in Genesis across several different versions, that The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”Genesis 2:18 NIV

There it is in black and white ladies, we are created to be a helper to Man. Did you know that after God created Adam (the first man), He brought all the different creatures of the Earth to him with the purpose of naming them and also to search for a suitable companion for him? Genesis 2:20-22 No lie, God could not find a good companion for the man and so he had to create the perfect companion and helper for Man.

Wow what an honor... I mean, God might as well have said "This man is definitely an awesome thing but I need something extra to make his life better and more fruitful." God looked at man and said he is not enough on his own...the world needs women!! Not women trying to be men or men trying to be women (don't even get me started), but women fulfilling the beautiful glorious roles that God has given us!! If you're still with me, awesome job being open-minded, give yourself a pat on the back.

Wanna know a secret?

...It feels good to fit into the mold you are created for. Yep it's true. It feels good as a wife to hand that authority back to the person it belongs to, and many times, back to God. Let's face it, God has a better plan than I do. So when I finally stopped fighting against him like a frothing rabid raccoon with my own perfect schedule and 5 year plan, He started to show me the beauty of surrendering. In the past 3 years, the Lord has lovingly guided me through the sensitive process of stepping back and allowing my husband to be the amazing MAN that God has called him to be. The other side of that coin is that I am becoming more and more the amazing wife, mother and daughter of God that I was always meant to be.   "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord , “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

Y'all....God is so good and He just wants to be with you. He wants to love on you. He wants to fulfill you....Surrendering is a big part of that.
